Task 8

Dissemination of Results

Starting Date: December 2014

Duration: 5 months

Description:

Although some results from the previous tasks will be presented at national and international conferences and published in national and international scientific journals, as well as in the project’s website, during the time of the project, the final stage within ‘Rural Matters’ will be specifically dedicated to the elaboration of the project’s overall outputs and dissemination of global results. Hence this task will be the principal moment to spread the project’s main results, not only within the scientific community but also amongst the practitioners of rural development, rural tourism organizations and agents and society as a whole.

A particular result  of this task will be the organization, in the beginning of April 2015 of an International Conference about the ‘Meanings of the Rural and Rurality in Western Countries’, with the presence of national and international social scientists from the field of rural studies. The Conference aims to disseminate ‘Rural Matters’ main results, to discuss them with other researchers and practitioners and also to establish an international network foreseeing future cooperation and common research projects.

During the Conference, a formal document with guidelines to Rural Development Policies and Strategies will be delivered to the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Spatial Planning.

Additionally, the Cconference will held the première of the documentary-film about the diverse and crossed views and narratives on the rural and on rurality in Portugal. The documentary-film presentation will give the motto to the entire Conference. The Conference will be also the ‘natural stage’ for the announcement (and possible launching) of the ‘Rural Matters’ Book, containing the main results achieved by the project.

The policy guidelines, the documentary-film and the book will be widely distributed – in a web and/or digital format – to schools, municipalities, research centres, local development associations, tourism offices, etc.
