Artur Cristóvão is a Professor of Rural Development at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), Deparment of Economics, Sociology and Management (DESG), and researcher at the Centre for Transdisciplinary Development Studies (CETRAD), Vila Real, Portugal. B. Sc. in Agronomy, Technical University of Lisbon, Agronomy Institute (1978), M. Sc. and Ph.D. in Continuing and Vocational Education – Extension Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison (1983,1986). Research in the areas of training and extension for rural development, dynamics of local organizations, local food systems and networks, value added agri-food products, new activities in rural areas.

Lívia Madureira

Livia Madureira, PhD in Land Economics is an assistant professor at the University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Portugal. Her fields of expertise are land and environmental economics. Her research practices are mainly quantitative research, while she also develops qualitative research and participate in interdisciplinary approaches. She has an extensive experience in participating in FP6 and FP7 European research projects and European research networks, such as COST E45. Her activities include also, lecturing in the field of economics and environmental economics, supervision of MSc and PhD students, organization and lecturing of advance courses for PhD students and consultancy activity related with the sustainability evaluation of development projects. Currently she coordinates a study for the Joint Research Centre in the field of environmental valuation as well as two other national competitive funded projects, respectively in the areas of environmental and innovation economics.
